Hubert Bildstein

Technology and analytics of nuclear fuels, radiochemistry and radiation chemistry as well as special metals and their applications are the life’s work of Hubert Bildstein. The Vorarlberg native has published more than 72 articles on these topics in technical journals, and he holds 22 patents.

Bildstein studied technical chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology. Following a research stay at the Cours de Génie Atomique in Paris, where he created the design for a heavy-water moderated natural uranium reactor, he earned the degree of Ingenieur en Genie Atomique. Back in Austria, he was head of the Institute of Chemistry in the Austrian Study Society for Atomic Energy.

In 1976, he joined Metallwerk Plansee, where he was responsible for production, central engineering, research and development, quality assurance, market development and sales. The chemist received many awards, including the Auer von Welsbach Medal. Bildstein was involved in the awarding of the Tyrolean Innovation Prize.
