Giulio Superti-Furga

Giulio Superti-Furga, born in Milan, focuses primarily on molecular and systems biology. He studied molecular biology at the University of Zurich, where he also obtained his doctorate in 1991. Today, he is the scientific director of CeMM (Research Centre for Molecular Medicine) in Vienna and the Ri.MED Foundation in Palermo, which conducts biomedical and biotechnological research projects. He is also a professor of systems biology at the Medical University of Vienna.

His research topics include, for example, the regulatory mechanisms of tyrosine kinases, which play a central role in cancer, and the study of membrane transporters. He also conducts research on cancer treatments and their effects on the human body.

With a strongly interdisciplinary approach, he combines omics technologies, bioinformatics, biochemistry and molecular biology to systematically decipher disease mechanisms and develop new therapeutic approaches. In addition to his scientific work, Superti-Furga is also socially engaged. He co-founded the citizen science project ‘Genom Austria’ and is committed to encouraging dialogue between science, the public and the arts.
