Heinz W. Engl

Financial and business mathematics are the basis for financial service providers and the manufacturing industry. MathConsult, founded in 1996 by Heinz W. Engl, is dedicated to this field and focuses on the development of mathematics-based solutions.

Heinz W. Engl studied technical mathematics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. In 1988 he was appointed full university professor for industrial mathematics. After holding leadership positions at the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation and the Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he has presided over the University of Vienna as Rector since 2011.

Visiting professorships and stays abroad have taken the mathematician to the USA, Great Britain and China, among other places. His awards include the ICIAM Pioneer Prize, the Johannes Kepler Prize, an honorary professorship from Fudan University Shanghai, and an honorary doctorate from Saarbrücken University. Engl is a true member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a member of Academia Europaea, London.
