Heinz Redl studied technical chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology, but switched to the field of medicine soon after graduating. He started working in the trauma research department of the General Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA) at the Lorenz Böhler Hospital in Vienna in 1978 and continued on this path continuously: Heinz Redl was head of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology (LBI Trauma) at the AUVA Research Center from 1998 to 2019, which is composed of seven trauma centers and four rehabilitation centers.
Currently (2021), he co-leads the LBG research group SHoW (SHoW – Senescence and Healing of Wounds) with Raffael Himmelsbach and is also considered an expert in tissue regeneration. The scientist is founder of the company Trauma Care Consult, as well as co-founder of the two companies Liporegena and MorphoMed. His goals are to improve diagnostic and therapeutic options for trauma patients. In addition, Heinz Redl is an associate professor at the Institute of Process Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology.
