Everyone has taken advantage of his product and climbed the mountain in summer or winter with a Doppelmayr ropeway. Artur Doppelmayr was a ropeway pioneer. He joined the family business in 1955 after studying industrial engineering at Graz Technical University and shaped it into the world market leader.
For many years, the engineer was involved in various functions in the Federation of Austrian Industry and the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Bank für Tirol und Vorarlberg and a member of the Advisory Board of Creditanstalt. Doppelmayr taught export business know-how at the Moscow State Lomonosov University in 1996. In 1997, at the age of 75, he received his doctorate from the Graz University of Technology.
The Vorarlberg native has received numerous honors, including the Grand Decoration of Merit of the State of Vorarlberg and the Silver Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria. In 1985 he was appointed Honorary Consul of Finland. In 2001 he was awarded the professional title of Professor and was an Honorary Senator of the Vienna University of Technology.
