The Exner Perspectives 2026

Without research, no prosperity…

but what does research need in order to work freely and reliably? And does that have anything to do with democratic stability?

These are the questions at the heart of the first edition of Exner Perspectives, a new salon format by the Wilhelm Exner Medal Foundation. We warmly invite you to join us on 19 November 2026.

Alexander Bogner

Two different vantage points on the same question: under what conditions can research thrive, and how much do those conditions depend on a stable democratic environment?

Alexander Bogner is a sociologist at the Institute of Technology Assessment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. His research focuses on science and technology studies. In 2023, at the initiative of the Austrian federal government, he led the research project reassessing the COVID-19 crisis. From 2019 to 2025, he served as President of the Austrian Sociological Association.

The Evening

Exner Perspectives is not a traditional panel but an evening for arriving and thinking. Music, perspectives, a conversation and an open discussion flow into one another, in a cosy atmosphere and with time to follow a thought wherever it leads. Afterwards, stay on for a drink and good conversation if you like.
